Final Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste: Landfilling for Sustainable Waste Management

Final Disposal

"Closing the Loop: Revolutionizing Waste Management with Final Disposal"

The final disposal of municipal solid waste refers to the process of disposing of waste that cannot be recycled or composted. The most common method of final disposal for municipal solid waste is landfilling. This involves placing the waste in a carefully designed and constructed landfill site, where it is compacted and covered with soil or other materials to prevent the release of pollutants into the environment. Landfills are typically located in remote areas, away from residential and commercial areas, to minimize potential impacts on the surrounding environment and communities. technical support, enhancing technical know-how, updating technology used, arranging technical sessions for safety of workforce etc.

Project Atmanirbhar Wards

A specialized project called the Aatmanirbhar Ward has been constituted by CMC, Fusion Team has extended its support to CMC for implementation, execution and sustainability of this project. Initially five wards have been identified to make Atmanirbhar on pilot basis. Now this number has been increased to 11 wards. The motive of this project is to make wards Atmanirbhar in waste management making them zero waste wards. Under this project, a dedicated team of swachhatadidi’s have been appointed to assist the citizens to make compost, subsidized compost bins are also being provided to the residents. IEC activities workshops, training & Capacity building and citizen engagement events are being held regularly. Team of SwachhataDidi’s going door-to-door to train and educate residents to make compost using wet household waste. Swachhata Buddy Cards are being provided to residents who recycles wet waste into compost at home. This card was ideated by us.

Transforming Waste Management: Towards a Greener Future

In our quest for a greener future, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling take center stage. By embracing these practices, we can significantly minimize the need for final disposal methods. However, there will always be a fraction of waste that requires careful management and safe disposal.

Enter FWMC, the Waste Management Company. With a two-fold approach, they tackle this challenge head-on. Firstly, by remediating existing dumpsites, they restore and revitalize these areas, mitigating environmental hazards and transforming them into safe spaces. Secondly, FWMC is committed to creating scientifically engineered landfill facilities, meeting stringent standards to ensure the responsible disposal of residual waste.

By bridging the gap between waste generation and sustainable solutions, FWMC plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our environment. Together, we can pave the way to a cleaner and greener future, one where waste is minimized, managed responsibly, and our planet thrives.

"The purpose – where I start – is the idea of use. It is not recycling, it’s reuse."

Neki Ki Deewar (Anandam Kendra)

We have suggested to establish about 20 Neki Ki Deewar at Chhindwara, in turn CMC has established these at 20 locations in the city. These are helpful in getting cloths, utensils, food, shoes etc. to needy. Ultimate aim is to reduce production of waste, actually which is not waste but resource for others.

"It's like recycling: selling old clothes to help make new ones."

AKAM Chauraha (AKAM Circle)

On the occasion of completion of 74 Years of India’s Independence, 75th Year is being celebrated as Azaadi Ka Amrti Mahotsav (AKAM). Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is also celebrating this year as AKAM. Therefore, it has directed every city to designate one circle (chauraha) as AKAM chauraha. In line with AKAM, Imlikheda Chowk (Ward No.- 35) has been designated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Circle (AKAM Chauraha) by Chhindwara Municipal Corporation. We have ideated and designed a detailed plan for AKAM Chauraha on the principle of 3R and conveyed it to CMC.

This initiative has transformed Imlikheda circle in a panoramic circle, that has improved the beauty of the city many folds. A hollow sphere was designed with Iron rods having AKAM Logo on one side and Swachh Chhindwara Sunder Chhindwara Logo on other. This sphere is placed on Imlikheda Chowk and fitted with an electric motor that will revolve this sphere.Multicolour lights were also installed at the periphery of this circle. Revolution of sphere and reflection of lights on it, turns this Circle (Chauraha) into a panoramic view, that attracts attention of visitors.

Safaimitra Suraksha Tiraha

We have ideated and advocated to CMC for dedicating a tiraha/chauraha (circle) to our real heros and foundation of maintaining cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene. Their lives are equally important as ours, therefore, on note of Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge A Tiraha was dedicated to safamitras for their unending contribution and to create awareness about protection of their lives.

Recycling is a simple act with many benefits

Paintings for spreading awareness about Safai Mitra Suraksha and its helpline number 14420, Swachh Survekshan 2022, Behaviour Change Communication and Beautification were made on walls in different wards and public space. Our team extends constant support to CMC for Beatification of city. Decorative fencing/ wire mesh has also been constructed/fixed over the bridges of water bodies to prevent littering and gaining attraction/attention of passer-by to motivate them to not to litter at such a beautiful place.

Fusion Team creates awareness and informs residents of the city about Malasur, scheduled desludging of septic tank, its procedure, helpline numbers (14420 & 18002336980) through IEC activities.
